Guns are tools for outdoor sports such as hunting or competition/target shooting, as well as providing piece of mind and protection for yourself and your property. These are just a few of the reasons why we have the right to bear arms. Regardless of why you are looking for a air rifle whether for pest control, having fun target practicing, hunting or anything else, owning an air rifle is often times a much better, easier and safer choice when compared with the licensing, regulations and dangers associated with owning a rifle powered by gun powder.

You may think that gun powder rifles are far superior to air rifles; however, you will be surprised to learn that there are air rifles powerful enough to take down a dear. Depending on your purpose will determine the right type of air rifle for you. It is very important to match the perfect air rifle for your purpose. There are three basic methods by which air rifles are powered: CO2 gas which is what most people probably think of when thinking of a pellet gun. This type is typically the least powerful; great for killing tin cans.  Spring-action or break-barrel is more powerful than the CO2 gas and is perfect for mid range target practice and small to medium pest control. The most powerful air rifles can be used for self-protection, hunting and long range competition shooting use PCP or pre-charged pneumatic (compressed air) to power them. You also want to keep in mind the caliber and weight of the pellet. Depending on what you want to do will determine what size caliber of pellet is best. A lower caliber light-weight pellet will fly faster and longer but packs less of a punch than a heavier bigger caliber pellet. All three types of air rifle have different size pellet calibers playing an important part in the purpose matching process. For more information and to help you further understand the different types of air rifles and the role caliber plays to make sure you are picking the best air rifle for you, please see my Nitty-Gritty of AirGuns page.
